Spacey Game News and Deals 10/10/13: Busy News Day!

Stack of Newspapers

It Just Keeps Stacking Up…

Hey folks, how are y’all! I hope y’all are having a fabulous day! I’m still half asleep my own self, but I’m getting by. Thankfully I have some time and energy to do news today, so let’s hop to it:

  • Star Citizen – Later today, at 6:30 PM Central Time, there will be a livestream of Citizen Con from Austin, Texas, in which Chris Roberts and his team will lay out what’s been done for the game and what’s coming next. I hope they archive it because I’ll be in my car at that point. ;)
  • Space Rangers HD – The release date for this exciting new installment in the beloved Space Rangers series is due next week, on 10/17, and you can read all about it on Blue’s since I can’t link to the actual press release on Games Press (which is behind a login wall). Can’t wait!
  • Elite: Dangerous – According to a story on Develop, this game will be getting Oculus Rift support! Man I’m gonna need to get me one of these…
  • PULSAR: Lost Colony – The devs have added a new $40 reward tier that gets you an art book and the opportunity to name a random galaxy.
  • The Mandate – Via a Kickstarter update, the devs have created a page on the dynamics of crewmanship and a page on the game’s music. They also now have forums for you to use.
  • Star Conflict – There’s a new dev blog detailing some features in the latest version of the game such as an improved H.U.D. and matchmaking balancing. The game will also be streamed on DigestNet tomorrow at 21:00 Moscow time.
  • Wayward: Terran Frontier – The official site has a teensy tiny little status update.
  • Ring Runner – There’s a new patch on the way, and you can read all about it on their Facebook page.
  • X Rebirth – Now on Steam, you can order the collector’s edition of the game along with the regular version. The collector’s edition includes two soundtracks, and video and other bonuses.
  • Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager – There’s a beefy dev update on the Matrix forums with lots of awesome info.
  • Wing Commander – The Concordia Hangar that Howard Day has been working on now also has a Sabre fighter. It’s pretty awesome, so check it out!
  • Star Trek Online – There’s another dev blog on the Avenger-class cruiser, which is now for sale apparently.
  • EVE Online – CCP is now offering their own new player training sessions, which is damned awesome of them. The Mittani also has word of FIVE supercarriers going down within a couple of days. Craaaaaaazy.
  • Escaping Titan – The Broken Crown folks have a new website, go check it out!
  • Star Strike – This wasn’t a computer game, per se, but Old Game Magazines has an awesome old ad for it nonetheless.

Now there is one deal today. StarDrive is Steam’s daily deal, going for $10.19. While many, including myself, feel the game is still incomplete, the developer apparently feels it can “can stand on its own two legs” according to this interview, and is already eying moving onto another game in the series, so whether this is a deal is up to you. ;)

That’s it for today folks, have a good one!

Spacey Gamey Dealsies 9/10-11/13: The Apology Edition

News Satellite Dish

Beepity Beep Beep Beepity Beep…

Hey folks, happy Wednesday! I hope y’all are having a great week so far! On my end, I am tiiiiiiiiiired, so tired I’ve not even felt motivated enough to…*gasp*…play games! I hope that changes soon, but until then, the best I can do is keep y’all informed with newsiness, so here goes! :)

Next up, we have two deals today. First, GOG’s daily sale is Ring Runner for $4.99, which is a steal for how much content this game has and how fun the gameplay is (yes, I’m still working on the review ;). The other deal is that the latest Humble Bundle has launched, and for currently a little less than $5, you can get FTL and several other, non-spacey games.

Finally, I thought this was funny. One of the websites I follow is TVShowsonDVD.com, and when they had an announcement on a new DVD set for a show called Space Rangers, I totally did a triple-take. Sadly, it has nothing to do with the much-beloved Russian game of the same name, but it looks interesting nonetheless.

That’s it for today folks! Have an awesome one!

Spacey Game News and Dealsies 9/6-9/13: Case-Of-The-Mondays Edition

Stack of Newspapers

The News Sure Piles Up…

Hellloooo my friends, and happy Monday! I hope y’all had a lovely weekend and are looking forward to a fun week ahead! Me, I am sooooo tired, and haven’t had time to get in much gaming besides some Skyrim (I have such an on-again, off-again relationship with the game…I’ll play it obsessively for weeks, to the detriment of any other game) and some time with the Starpoint Gemini 2 alpha. Not much there yet, but it’s fun to fly around and shoot stuff at the moment. Anyway, news! Let’s get to it! (All vids will be embedded after the cut, FYI.)

Now, in deals, there are a decent few for y’all! First off, Gamefly is having a Kalypso sale which includes Legends of Pegasus for $15.99. Then, Greeman Gaming is having a Value Pack Week which includes plenty of sales, most notably Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity for $6.79, which oddly isn’t included in the Stardock complete pack for $56.97 (but Rebellion is), and finally, they have a Strike Suit Zero pack for $13.49.

Finally, in related news, since Gearbox is lending its support to the (now entitled) Homeworld: Shipbreakers, the game will no longer be free-to-play but a full commercial product! Hooray!

That’s it for today folks! Have a great one!

Spacey Gamey News and Deals 9/5/13: The It’s-Not-Friday-Yet? Edition

News RSS Image

Newsey Goodness…

Helllllooooo my friends, and happy Thursday! I hope y’all are having great week so far! Mine’s been okay, not enough sleeping and certainly not enough gaming, but whuddyagonnado, right? ;) You’re not here to read my babblings though (or ARE you?), you’re here for NEWS, so let’s do this thing!

  • Star Citizen – The Mittani has posted their own hangar walkthrough showing off eight ships (well, four ships with several variants) and the official site has an edited version of the hangar launch video which was edited by a fan. Both vids will be below the cut.
  • EVE Online – The official site has word that the Second Decade Collector’s Edition will ship on October 24th. This massive package (hurr hurr) inclides a 190-page hardcover book, a Rifter-shaped USB hub, a soundtrack CD and several in-game items. Dayum.
  • Star Conflict – A new update has been released that improves ship slot systems, among other things.
  • X3 Series – Via the Egosoft Facebook account, they’ve announced that X3: Terran Conflict and X3: Albion Prelude are in beta for Mac through Steam.
  • Wing Commander – The CIC are reporting that an intrepid fan has gotten the original game to work on a Raspberry Pi, which is pretty damned cool.
  • Star Trek Online – There’s a new dev blog looking further at dilithium mines, a new special project in the game, apparently.
  • Drox Operative – A new 1.022 beta patch adds a ton of new fixes and reminds me I owe the expansion a preview, so stay tuned for that.
  • Ring Runner – Over on Facebook, there’s a new logo for the game’s upcoming MOBA-like mode.
  • Yargis: The Beginning – Found this game over on Steam Greenlight, and it looks pretty nifty. They also have an IndieGoGo campaign going on.
  • Paragon – Finally, I brought this up yesterday because I was under the mistaken impression it’s a new game. It isn’t, it appears to be a modification based on the Pioneer open source engine. However, the Paragon site doesn’t mention Pioneer at ALL, which honestly bugs me a lot, especially since they’re on Greenlight asking to be sold on the biggest digital distribution platform around. I therefore wanted to apologize for giving the impression this was a new game and just be transparent about the whole thing.

But wait, there’s more. We have some deals today too! First off, there’s a new digital distribution platform called ShinyLoot and they have deals on some space games such as:

I already got that Honor in Vengeance II game, because $0.90 is amazingly cheap, but still, stuff is hard to find over there, so be warned. The other deal is the Humble Weekly Sale which includes AI War and all five expansions along with basically every other Arcen game for about $6 as I write this, an amazing deal if you miss out on the last one.

Finally, in kinda-related news, some intrepid fans made a full-scale model of U.S.S. Voyager from the show of the same name. Heck, I might even load up Minecraft my own self to check it out.

That’s it for today folks. Have a great one!

Spacey Gamey News and Deals 8/10/13-9/3/13: A News Post So Big I Hope It Doesn’t Break the Site…

Help Me Puppy! I'm Burred in News!

Help Me Puppy! I’m Burred in News!

Holy crap, newsiness! It’s been a while since I posted some of this stuff, but DAAAAAYUM has life been crazy. Work has been INSANE, home life has been busy and I had a weird slightly-depressive funk I had to work my way through (nothing bad, just turning 40 stuff mostly), but things are balancing out again, which means it’s time for NEWS, and hooooooly crap is there a ton (over 180 items). Several weeks worth of stuff from all over the map (so much so that this post will likely be written over a mult-day period). This post will be so damned big I’ll have to put it behind a cut just to help make the front page look sane, so here goes…

Spacey Game Newsies and Dealsies 8/8-9/13: The OMG-X-Rebirth-Has-A-Release-Date-Finally Edition ;)

Folded Newspapers

PILE ON THE NEWS!

Helllooooo my friends, and happy Friday! I hope y’all had a great week and are looking forward to a fantastic weekend! I know I’m gonna get some gaming time in my own self, finally, so I’m really looking forward to it my own self. Until then, there’s some news to get out of the way, including some biggies, such as…

We’re not done yet folks, we have deals! First up, Gamestop is having a Stardock Entertainment sale which includes deals on all of their games including the usual spacey subjects (I’m low on time and you know who I mean ;). Then, both Strike Suit Zero (and its associated DLC) and Strike Suit Infinity are on sale on Steam.

Next, in kinda-related news, Camel101 — the folks who made Gemini Wars — launched their Kickstarter for their new non-spacey tactical game, Black Talons. Finally, in not-at-all-related news, the dev for the currently Kickstarting game Smart Q45, which is some sort of mobile puzzle game, wrote me a really nice email asking me to promote his game, so there ya go.

That’s it folks! Have an awesome weekend!

Spacey Game News 7/31/13: Bye Bye July Edition

Stack of Newspapers

A Bundle of Newsiness!

Helllllooo everyone, and happy Wednesday! Can y’all believe July is over already?! Where the heck did it go? Anyway, how’s your week going? Mine’s been kinda weird, started off with a sick day and just been tired ever since. Blah. I have enough energy for news though, so let’s get to it!

  • Eterium – Finishing their campaign with $810 above their goal in what felt like a photo finish, this game was successfully funded on Kickstarter! Congrats to Andrew and the team!
  • Imperium Galactica – Digital Reality sent out a press release stating that development for this online-only installment to the series was being suspended due to “purely professional considerations.” CEO András Peller stated that “development did not proceed in a way that it would have justified the continuation of the project.” Pretty vague, yeah, but not unsurprising since we’ve heard so little about this project since its announcement. Ah well, maybe they can work on Imperium Galactica III now. ;)
  • Starpoint Gemini II – One of the devs emailed me to let me know that there’s new stuff to show off! First off, there’s a new video called Showreel Perun showing a little bit of in-engine gorgeousness with the Perum dreadnaught. They also have some new pictures via Twitter, including an ambient shot, some gate/space monster thing, and a starchart! Finally, the devs are taking suggestions and requests over on the SpaceSimCentral forums. Wheeee!
  • Beyond Beyaan – Brent (the developer) just emailed and let me know that his game will be part of a sci-fi bundle through IndieBundle.org starting August 9th (or 7th for early access, whatever that means).
  • Infinite Space III – The latest update for July is live on their websie, which includes a video of some gameplay, which I’ll embed below.
  • Ring Runner – Giant Bomb has a lovely article talking to the Dryeres about their five year journey to make the game.
  • Kerbal Space Program – The latest issue of KSP Weekly is up, and there’s an interview on VideoGameGeek News with the developers (who I’ve also been trying to talk to my own self).
  • Star Citizen – You can see some work in progress on the Avenger fighter as well as a news update on Kaizen adding some in-game fiction flavor. PC Gamer also has a “How I Game” article focusing on Chris Roberts.
  • Artemis Bridge Simulator – Over on Facebook, they’ve detailed what’s new in version 2.0, and have released some lovely new screenshots as well. I really need to get a group together and play this.
  • EVE Online – The official site has a summary post covering the massive battle of 6VDT. The Mittani is reporting the theft of 350 billion ISK from TEST’s coffers as well as a look at the rebalanced HAC.
  • Star Trek Online – Part three of their visit by Priority One has been posted.
  • Star Conflict – There are three new starter packs on Steam that are all piratical in nature. Arrrrrr!
  • Expansion – You may recall a little while back that I was contacted by a developer for an upcoming spacey exploration game that had no website yet, sadly. Well, today he sent some very early shots of the game along, and I’ll put those in a gallery below the cut.

That’s it for today folks! Have a great one!

Spacey Gamey News 7/26/13: The Thank-Gawd-It’s-Friday Edition

News Satellite Dish

All The Space Game News That’s Fit to Virtually Print!

Helllooooo my friends, and happy Friday! I hope y’all had a lovely week and a great weekend ahead planned. I don’t think I’ll be getting in much gaming myself this weekend due to awesome RL stuff, but I really can’t complain. What are you guys playing this weekend, if anything? :) Not a lot of news today, so let’s dive into it.

That’s it for now! Have an awesome weekend everyone!

Spacey Game Newsies and Dealsies 7/24/13: Getting-Back-On-The-Horse Edition

C'mere Buddy, I Need to Get Back on You! ;)

C’mere Buddy, I Need to Get Back on You! ;)

Hellllloooooooooo my beloved friends, how are you? I hope y’all are having an excellent hump day so far. On my end, I’ve not played much lately, but I did see Pacific Rim again last night, which was awesomely exhausting. If y’all haven’t seen it, you NEED to, especially on as big as screen as possible. We’re not here to talk movies, though (unless it’s Pacific Rim talk, then CHAT AWAY), but videyagames, so let’s get to it!

  • Atari Properties – The big news on the minds of spacey gamers is where Atari’s various properties have landed. According to these court documents (thanks Goomich!), Wargaming is the new owner of the Master of Orion IP, while Stardock now owns the Star Control IP. You can read more on The Escapist and IncGamers about the Star Control acquisition, and there’s a post from Stardock’s Brad Wardell about the acquisition. Thanks to Blues for the links. I’m honestly not entirely sure how to feel about this news, but it’s too early to decide whether this is a good or bad thing. Stardock has said they want to start work on a Star Control reboot this year, but will it be the same? I mean, we already have the Ur-Quan Masters after all. I guess we’ll see what happens in time. What do you guys think?
  • Homeworld – Over on Polygon, the Gearbox folks go into detail on how they aquired the Homeworld IP from THQ in their bankruptcy auctions.
  • Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager – Last week I went to Slitherine and Matrix Games’ presentation at Historicon, which included a lot of info about this game. I’ll be writing my own report soon, but they’ve also posted their presentation as well, along with a video from Buzz Aldrin himself, who sadly had to cancel his appearance at the event. Lots of good stuff in there.
  • Ring Runner – IGN has released a Let’s Try video of them playing the game, which I’ll also embed below. I’m currently working on a review of this one, so stay tuned.
  • Star Citizen – There’s a new galactic guide to Hurston Dynamics to add some more in-universe flavor.
  • Vendetta Online – There’s a new version of the game that adds high-res planets, procedural nebula backgrounds and more. They also have added Oculus Rift support to the game.
  • Beyond Beyaan – There’s a new blog post detailing some new demo races and more race information in the game for y’all to read.
  • Galactose – You can now read about cruiser parts and debris in their latest blog post.
  • Star Conflict – A new update entitled “New Frontiers” adds T5 level ships, new hangers and a new PvE mission.
  • AI War – The latest update, entitled “More Dirty Tricks“, allows you to play some new tricks on the AI.
  • Star Trek Online – There are two new entries in their Legacy of Romulus series, and they’ve also had visits from Massively and Priority One.
  • Endless Space – The folks over at CheatMasters have a review of the Disharmony expansion pack, which I say with no further comment. ;)
  • Deep Space Settlement – There’s a new video of a station tower in the game which I’m posting only because I wanna stop being nagged about it. ;) (Not really, it looks cool, but still…) I’ll also embed the video below.

In deals, there’s another bundle to tell ya about, the Summertide Bundle from Indie Gala which includes the fantastic Space Pirates and Zombies and a ton of other games for $6.42 currently, which is a steal people.

Finally, in related news, the folks at Camel 101 — who made the fun, if flawed Gemini Wars — are making a new tactical combat game called Black Talons, and sent over a teaser trailer for y’all to check out.

That’s it for today folks. Have a great one! :)
