Spacey News and Deals 5/15-17/13: The Bring On the Weekend Edition

Drowning in News

SO MANY NEWSIDEALSNESS!

Hellllllloooo my friends, and happy Friday! The weekend is FINALLY upon us! YES! Sorry about the lack of news for the past couple of days, there was some other stuff I needed to get done first before this, so I hope y’all don’t mind. :) Even though my time has been consumed with Distant Worlds: Shadows, I’ve still managed to fit in some X3: Albion Prelude, so I’ll have something on that early next week. I also hope to tackle some more TIE Fighter this weekend as well. But enough about me, there’s a LOT of newsiness to talk about!!!

Now we have deals!!! First, I suppose to celebrate the release of its major 3.0 patch as noted above, some of the X games are on sale at a few places, such as:

Next in deals, Amazon is having a HUGE Digital Games Mayhem sale, yet it only includes a few space games (of which are of questionable quality, but I mention ‘em regardless), such as:

Finally in deals, we have some randoms, such as Dawnstar (which I still need to play) for $5.00 on Green Man Gaming and Unstoppable Gorg for…whatever you want on IndieGameStand.

Finally in related stuff, the folks at the amazing Three Moves Ahead podcast had a great podcast on 4X games.

That’s it!! WHEW! Have a great weekend everyone.

Spacey Gamey News and Dealsies 2/21-22/13: Random Bucket of Randomness

Radio News

OMG NEW NEWS GRAPHIC! ;)

Hey folks, happy Friday! Sorry about the lack of news yesterday, was a crazy day and just didn’t have time. There’s two days worth of stuff here, so let’s get right to it!

Now, in deals, there are a LOT to go over, so let’s dive in:

  • Gratuitous Space Battles is having a free weekend on Steam, plus the game itself is 75% off, meaning the base game is $3.74 and the “complete” pack is $4.74. The discount isn’t on the latest DLC though.
  • Lunar Flight (PC, Mac) is on sale at GetGames for 4.99.
  • The Indie Gala Colossus bundle includes a copy of Galactic Civilizations 1: Ultimate Edition along with a buncha other games if you pay around $5 as I write this.
  • Amazon is having a HUGE Farewell to February sale, which includes a few space games such as Space Empires 5 for $4.99, O.R.B. for $2.49 and Spacebar (which I’ve never heard of) for $1.24.
  • While not technically a space game, Sword of the Stars: The Pit — from the folks who made the Sword of the Stars space games — is finally available and going for $8.99 on GamersGate. Initial impressions are quite mixed on this one.

Finally, in kinda-related news, one of the co-founders of the Unity engine, which a lot of space game devs are using these days, it seems, has left the company to make games on his own. Finally finally, Ziff-Davis closed down 1Up, UGO and GameSpy yesterday, all of which gave decent coverage to space games, so I wish all those folks luck in finding new gigs.

That’s it for today folks! Have an awesome weekend!

News Hands!

The News is Back in Hand…

Hey guys, I’m back, kinda! Stiilllll feeling under the weather, but decidedly more human than I have in a week. Yay! To that end, I’m gonna go over the highlights of the news from the past week because I have neither the time or the energy to list eeeeverything, and will try to resume normal news posting tomorrow. Here we go!

Finally in non-game-specific news, Star Sector has a new article focusing on empires and races in 4X games.

That’s it for now folks. Tomorrow I should be able to start covering everything again, but I wanted to get these bits out to you at least. Thanks for visiting, and have a great day!

Space Game News 2/4/13: Not That Manic a Monday

News and Coffee

CoffeeCoffeeCoffeeCoffee…

Hello, and happy Monday! I hope y’all had a great weekend! Mine was alright, I’m not feeling awesome, and the girlfriend had a fever, so it wasn’t as awesome as it could’ve been, but we did get a lot of West Wing (girlfriend’s first runthrough) and The Wire (my first time through) in. ;) Aaaanyway, you’re not here to read me ramble (and if you are, [insert whichever diety/dieties you believe in here] help you), you’re here for NEWS, so here it is! (Remember, videos will be after the cut.)

Now, in kinda related news, Chris Roberts interviewed Chris Taylor of Gas Powered Games about his Wildman Kickstarter campaign in a new segment on the Star Citizen type entitled “Game Changers”. Finally, the devs of the space 4x board game Hegemonic asked me to promote the final hours of their Kickstarter campaign, so here we are. ;)

That’s it for today folks! Thanks for reading, and have a lovely day!

The News is Back!

Drink In the News…

Hey guys, me again, hiiii! Sorry for the sporadic posts, been kind of a wonky week, but here I am to drop a news bomb on y’all. :) Here we go!

Finally, in non-spacey gaming news, Eurogamer has an article called Trends of 2013: Rise of the Indies. I wanna go on record and say, as a space game fan, indies have been on the rise since the early 2000s once AAA space games began to falter, and I’ve been trying to thank ‘em for years. ;)

That’s it for now folks. Thanks for reading and visiting, and have an awesome day!

Steam Logo

You Magnificent Bastard!

Edit 2:Updated as of Black Friday morning with more deals.

Edit 1: This looks like a handily dandily tool to keep track of this stuff. Hope y’all find it helpful. :)

And we’re off! Once again, Steam is giving us the opportunity to throw money at them with another huge sale, the Steam Autumn Sale! So big, it deserves its own post! ;) Now, I don’t know all of the deals as I don’t have the time or energy to go through EEEEEVERYTHANG, but here’s the spacey game deals I did find (and please feel free to mention others in the comments.

First off, there’s an indie games sale which includes the following spacey game deals:

  • FTL for $9.99 or with its soundtrack for $13.98. This one could be glitchy since the sale just began.
  • Gemini Wars for $11.99
  • Gratuitous Space Battles Complete Pack for $9.49 (or 75% off the individual game and 50% off each piece of DLC). This one is a STEAL.
  • Galaxy on Fire II HD for $9.99, which is fantastic.
  • Endless Space for $14.99 for the Admiral Edition, $17.49 for the Emperor Special Edition, and $1.70 to upgrade the Admiral to the Emperor Edition.

As for individual games, the ones I know of so far are:

Spacey Game News and Deals – 11/20/12

News RSS Image

Newsiness!!! Dealsiness!!

Hey everyone, happy Tuesday! I hope y’all are having a wonderful week so far! I’ve got a fair bit of news to get through today, so let’s get started. :)

  • It’s funny, Matrix Games’ Erik Rutins has been answering a TON of questions over on their forums about Distant Worlds: Shadows, the latest expansion pack for Distant Worlds. I was gonna spend some time and scour through the thread today and see what I could dig up, but Adam over at Space Sector already made a great summary article, so I’ll give him the credit. ;) Basically the expansion won’t be out this year, sadly, as they’re looking at a Q1 2013 release. This is fiiine by me, I’d rather it done right than done fast. They’re promising new features, better performance and much more, so head over to Space Sector and read all about it. :) I know I can’t waaaaaait for more of my favorite 4X game. :)
  • There’s a new screenshot of a Palladium class cruiser from the upcoming Gratuitous Space Battles expansion, Outcasts, over on Cliff Harris’ blog that looks radically awesome.
  • AI War has a new updated entitled the “Burying the Hatchet” which brings back Roaming Enclaves, along with bug and balance fixes.
  • There’s a thank you video on the Kickstarter page of Strike Suit Zero from Born Ready Games’ CEO thanking backers for their support. Sadly I can’t embed it.
  • According to a Tweet on Soldak’s Twitter account, the next patch for Drox Operative will allow the player to buy temporary ceasefires. Cool!
  • FTL is back in the news. First, they’ve been nominated for IGM’s Game of the Year award for 2012. Then, Gamasutra has an article in which the devs state that competition deadlines helped whip the game into shape.
  • Finally in spacey gamey news, you can now buy Lunar Flight in the Mac App Store, which is awesome.

In non-spacey game news, you can now enter the beta for Pandora: First Contact over on Slitherine’s website. This is a very cool looking 4X in the Alpha Centauri vein, so jump on it folks. In deals news, GamersGate’s deal of the day is Gratuitous Tank Battles for $4.79, made from the same Cliff Harris linked above. Finally, in non-gamey news, the Concept Ships blog has some great art from Martin Deschambault and Manchu.

That’s it for today folks. Have a great one!!
