Spacey News and Deals 5/15-17/13: The Bring On the Weekend Edition

Drowning in News

SO MANY NEWSIDEALSNESS!

Hellllllloooo my friends, and happy Friday! The weekend is FINALLY upon us! YES! Sorry about the lack of news for the past couple of days, there was some other stuff I needed to get done first before this, so I hope y’all don’t mind. :) Even though my time has been consumed with Distant Worlds: Shadows, I’ve still managed to fit in some X3: Albion Prelude, so I’ll have something on that early next week. I also hope to tackle some more TIE Fighter this weekend as well. But enough about me, there’s a LOT of newsiness to talk about!!!

Now we have deals!!! First, I suppose to celebrate the release of its major 3.0 patch as noted above, some of the X games are on sale at a few places, such as:

Next in deals, Amazon is having a HUGE Digital Games Mayhem sale, yet it only includes a few space games (of which are of questionable quality, but I mention ‘em regardless), such as:

Finally in deals, we have some randoms, such as Dawnstar (which I still need to play) for $5.00 on Green Man Gaming and Unstoppable Gorg for…whatever you want on IndieGameStand.

Finally in related stuff, the folks at the amazing Three Moves Ahead podcast had a great podcast on 4X games.

That’s it!! WHEW! Have a great weekend everyone.

Aeon Command: Striking a Balance Between Tension and Control

1 - Straightforward Tutorial

Humble Beginnings

One of the joys this blog brings — besides you guys, of course ;) — is that without it, there are a lot of wonderful little indie titles I might’ve missed. Case in point, Aeon Command here.  If I hadn’t been scouring Desura one day — which isn’t something I did before launching this blog — for new games, I might never have come across it, honestly. I’m really glad I did though, and if you keep on reading, hopefully you’ll see why and try it for yourself. ;)

Spacey Game News and Deals 2/1/13: Bring On the Weekend!

Drowning in News

The Weekend! YAY! Don’t Drown! ;)

Heeeeeeeeeeey friends, happy Friday! The weekend is finally upon us!! WWOOHOO! What are y’all playing this weekend? I dunno about y’all, but I am TIIIIRED. I need another weekend to lead up to this weekend. ;) Anyway, you’re not here for my charming banter (or maybe you are, in which case, you’re welcome ;), you’re here for the freaking news, so let me drop some on y’all…

Now, in somewhat related-to-space-game news, there’s a new panel entitled “What Does Ancient Earth Tell Us?” over on the Broken Crown Games forum. Then, in an interview with Ironclad (the folks behind the Sins of a Solar Empire games), they apparently feel as if the RTS genre is dying. Is that news, really? The Escapist thinks so, and thanks to ‘em. ;)

Finally, in deals, GOG is having a random weekend sale that includes Darkstar One for $3.99. Finally, there’s a new bundle called the Green Light Bundle that includes Aeon Command (of which I’ll have a review up next week) for any price over $5 apparently.

That’s it folks! Have a wonderful day and weekend!

Spacey Gamey News and Deals 1/23/13: A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That…

Folded Newspapers

Piling it On…

Haaaaaaaaaaayyyy y’all! Happy Tuesday! I hope y’all are having a lovely day! I’m having a great staycation so far my own self! Now, a couple of things before I jump into the news. First, to try and get as much done as possible this week, my plan is to play as many games as I can fit in, take notes, capture screenshots, that sort of thing, then write about ‘em as I have time. Therefore, this week might not be stuffed with content, but there will be a steady stream of content coming out over the next days and weeks as a result, FYI.

Secondly, reader Jake wrote in to request I try a new news format to make it easier to read. Basically start with the game’s name itself after the bullet in bold, followed by the news, so I’m gonna try that now. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. :) Thanks folks!

Finally, in spacey game deals, spacey groundy game Salvation Prophecy is on sale at GamersGate for $10, and Paradox has launched their own web store and are celebrating by having a 55% off sale, meaning you can get Sword of the Stars II for $9.

That’s it for today! Have an awesome day y’all, and thanks as always for visiting!

News Satellite Dish

Bring On the News!

Hey y’all, happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great weekend (or in our case here in the U.S., a long holiday weekend)! A lot happened over the long weekend and while I don’t usually post on Sundays, some of this is time sensitive. Therefore, let’s get the week started with a ton of spacey gamey news! Remember, all videos that can be embedded will be after the cut.

In other news, Cliff Harris has a great article on Kickstarter inequality which is totally worth a read. In non-gamey news, the lead dev of Beyond Beyaan has a life update, and there are some lovely Halo 4 ship drawings over on the Concept Ships blog. In bargains, there’s a new Fueling Up bundle over on GamersGate which includes Aeon Command and Space Pirates and Zombies.

Finally, the devs behind the Interstellar Marines: Prologue Kickstarter asked me to promote their campaign, and while it’s not a spacey game, I’m happy to help as much as I can.

That’s it folks. Have a great day, and thanks for visiting!

News Satellite Dish

News From Around the ‘Verse!!!

Hey y’all, happy Friday! The weekend is here, and no one is more glad for this damned week to be over than I am. Soooooo tired. That being said, let’s wrap the week up on a high note with some AWESOME spacey gamey updates and deals IN YO FACE:

  • This is unconfirmed, but according to a post on the GoG forums, Conquest: Frontier Wars could be released on GoG as early as the first week of December! YAY! I’m trying to get confirmation, so I’ll let y’all know what I find out, but this would be AWESOME if true. :)
  • In Star Citizen news, continued funding has unlocked the Geddon and Tal systems, as well as the Aegis Retaliator heavy bomber. There’s also a poll on their site in which you get to choose the look of the Freelancer. Finally, the folks behind the game will be doing a twenty-four hour live webcast on the official site starting at 1 PM Central time on Sunday, November 18th. I know I’ll be tuning in. :)
  • There’s a new patch for Drox Operative that includes a ton of fixes and balance changes.
  • The folks at Kerberos and Paradox have announced the Sword of the Stars II: Enhanced Edition, which adds a new expansion pack with a new playable race called the Loa (which existing owners of the game get for free), along with all previous patches and DLC packs. They also released a teaser video, which I’ll embed below.
  • The New Eden Open Tournament begins tomorrow in EVE Online, featuring twenty-seven teams gunning for a $6,000 prize. You can watch streaming video of the event over on own3D.tv.
  • The Infinity website has seen its first update in a loooooong time, this time featuring atmosphereic scattering, along with some damned pretty pictures.
  • The folks at Pocket Tactics have a great article on unanswered questions regarding the Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter. Also, the folks at Rock, Paper Shotgun sum up my own feelings about the recently released “update” pretty well. :/
  • Finally in news, there’s a bevy videos of Star Trek: Excalibur that show off a ton of new features, but somehow I missed ‘em all (sorry, they don’t have an RSS feed!), so I’m gonna link you to their YouTube channel so you can witness them for yourself. They’re all pretty awesome.

In the deals column, GameFly is having an Indie Weekend sale which includes Space Pirates and Zombies for $2.49 and Gratuitous Space Battles for $7.49. There’s also some new thingy called the Green Light Bundle wherein you can pay what you want to th recently released Aeon Command.

Spacey Game News and Deals – 10/10/12

News and Coffee

Two of My Favorite Things. ;) Space Game News and Coffee.

Hey y’all, how are ya? We all by now should know the BIG NEWS of the day (look down if you missed it ;), but other stuff happened too! Check it:

  • There’s a look at Star Citizen over on Rock, Paper Shotgun. BIG NEWS!
  • You can now get a copy of the cool looking spacey simmy sandboxy game Dangerous over on GamersGate. I need to review this one soon, only played a teensy bit of it but I enjoyed it!
  • Vendetta Online has recently been updated to version 1.8.230, and will also apparently be available directly on Windows 8 and Windows RT through the Windows Store.
  • The Rodina website has been updated with a new post with some scant details and a video (which I’ll embed after the cut) of their FTL drive, called the Limnal Drive.
  • There’s a new beta patch (version 0.924) for Drox Operative which “adds bonus skills for high base crew points, adds damage bonuses/penalties for different damage/defense type combinations”. Awesome!
  • I was just notified today that the fun-looking space tug of war game Aeon Command now has a release date: October 30th! Congrats to them! For more info on the game, you can check out my Q&A with the developer, or these lovely screenshots they sent along. :)
  • In even more news, the Star Conflict site has a new video from some Brazilian players entitled “RaptorStealth in Slow Motion” which I’ll also embed after the cut. It’s got some hot spaceshippy action which makes me wonder if this thing actually hit release and I just missed it. Time to look into that. ;) (Edit: Nope, still pre-release, but I should look into it regardless ;).

In the deals column, you can get Starpoint Gemini over on GamersGate for $5.99 today only. Finally, in non-spacey news, there are some new awesome concept ship designs by John Wallin Liberto over on the Concept Ships blog.

That’s it for now. Have an awesome day y’all!

Aeon Command Q&A: Casual Tug of War in Space with Lots of Pew Pew

Aeon Command Screenshot

I Love the Smell of Lasers in The Morning…

As y’all know, I’m all about supporting the indie game developers who so help keep the space game genre as alive and vibrant as its been of late. When one of devs behind the indie spacey game Aeon Command, therefore, made a special request to do a Q&A in time for a promotion on Reddit this weekend, I happily obliged. Therefore, please enjoy my Q&A with Danny Stracener, one of the creators, after the cut. Also, the first five folks who comment on the article and help get a discussion of the game going will get a free key for the game as well, so get readin’, and enjoy! :)

Steam Greenlight Launches with Plenty of Space Games to Vote On!

Steam Greenlight Logo

Go! Vote! :)

Edit 2: Hey guys, sorry about the edit, but in an effort to keep this as simple as possible (thanks Bryan for the idea), I’ve created collections for all the space games I find on Steam Greenlight. There’s an all-inclusive list which has every space game I can find, and a recommended list covering games I actually have experience with. Hope this helps make Greenlight a bit easier to deal with!

Edit 1: To keep this post from getting too long, I’ve moved new entries to this forum thread, so I encourage folks to head over to the forum and add any to the list not already there. Thanks!

Steam has finally launched Greenlight, their way to let new games onto Steam by having folks vote on them. I’ve gone through the list, and I’ve found a lot of spacey games, including:

These were all the ones I’ve been able to find, at least. If you see more, let me know and I’ll add them to the list. Now go and vote, dangit! ;)
