Gonna Be a Slow Week Y’all – Hailing Frequencies for 3/8/18

Slow Road Ahead
It’s This Kinda Week.

Hey folks, happy Thursday as I write this on a Monday! You may notice there weren’t any videos or streams this week. That’s because I had some dental surgery on Friday, 3/2, and talking stillllll isn’t the greatest, but hopefully it will be by next week. I was gonna write a bit more when I started this post, but then I got slammed at work, and it took away allllllllll my mental energy.

So here we are on Thursday, with no new videos or anything this week. What have I been doing with my time? Well first up, I’ve been refamiliarizing myself with Terminus, next week’s game of the week. It’s been refreshing to revisit this classic space sim, though not all is rosy. This is definitely a game made my programmers rather than gamers, because some things just MAKE NO SENSE from a gaming perspective. It also has a very odd way of moving around its menus. While it runs full-screen, I’ve not been able to get it running in a Window via DxWnd. I’m hoping that the nGlide wrapper upon which it runs can go into windowed mode (I just found out it has the option as I was writing this). Otherwise it’s gonna be stuttery as hellllll on the video.

I’ve also been playing some Total War: Warhammer. Why? Because the second game and much of its DLC is on sale, and I’ve been seeing whether I like the first game or not to invest in the second. As I’m trying to buy fewer games, this would likely be my last gaming purchase for much of the year while I save up for a new PC, so I wanna be sure I click with it, and I think I do. The last Total War game I really clicked with was Shogun 2, and this feels actually a bit better than that one so far, so I likely am gonna invest.

I’ve actually been doing a lot of soul-searching in regards to my own gaming of late. I buy a lot of games, yet most of them I just play a little bit and then barely touch them afterward. For example, I got Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach a month or so ago. I played one mission, enjoyed it, and haven’t touched it since. Why not just keep playing that rather than looking for something new? It’s like I’m looking for the thrill of acquiring something, rather than the thrill of actually playing something. I’m debating whether Total War: Warhammer II is the game to test this theory on, especially when I have so much else to play in my library already. It’s an odd conundrum. I’ll likely get it, but if I do, I have to really be stringent with myself in buying new games over the coming months. Am I up for that challenge? I’d like to think so. At least, I hope so.

I’ve also tried to spend more time on Twitter, interacting with folks there. I figured it’s one of the best places to talk to devs and see what they’re doing and stuff, so I’m trying to actually follow the thing. It’s not super easy but I’m trying to prune my following list down to just the essentials (devs, games, friends) and mute a lot of retweets so I don’t bounce off it like I usually do due to being overwhelemed by the thing. Hopefully it’ll stick this time.

Anyway, enough about me, there’s a ton of news, so we need to get to it. Gonna bullet point this stuff since there’s so much of it.

  1. You should use Backloggery.com. Once I realized my completion rate I started being real cautious about buying new games.

    1. I would if they had a way to import games en masse. Not entering hundreds of titles manually, no sir/ma’am. ;)

Chime In!
