Welcome to this episode of the Space Game Junkie Podcast! In this episode, Jim and I sit down with designer Joseph Young about his upcoming economic-based space 4X game, Apollo4X, which will be coming soon to GamersGate and is soliciting votes on Steam Greenlight. ;) Apollo4X is different than your typical 4X in that it’s far more macro and economically focused than the general Master of Orion clones out there. For example, there’s no research, no scouting and so on. What there ARE are interesting decisions and choices you have to make each turn, which results in something that’s quite different and in many ways truly unique. We had a great time listening to Joe talk about his game because he’s so dang passionate about it, and it ultimately made for an excellent podcast, or so I’d like to think. ;)

  1. I’m at work and can’t watch yet — is there a target GamersGate release date? Or is it just “soon(tm)”?

    We are currently a small studio, but we don’t want to sell an unfinished product, so we are taking our time.

    Production will be finished between one to two months.

    And when I say finished, I mean “released,” with all the bells and whistles.

    However, our next task is getting the word out there, and we are working on that.

  3. Ok, so it’s official. 31st Oct is the GamerGate early access availability.

    I’ve talked to Joe so much after this podcast that they’ve considered bringing me aboard the project. If that happens in a compensated way, I’ll be transparent about it and try to restrain from shilling it on the show :-)

  4. For those of you buying it… they didn’t pack the manual in the download like we assumed, nor link it off the store page. We’ll fix that. Meanwhile:

    Have a manual. It was written by one of your favorite people.
    In fact, if you’re on the fence about whether you want in at this alpha stage, the manual shows you everything that’s working in the game already. Good way to decide.
