SGJ Podcast #513 – Campaigns vs. Sandboxes and Which We Prefer

SpaceBourne 2 Came Up a Lot in Our Discussions…

Hello my friends, and welcome to this week’s show! First off, before discussing the show itself, a bit of housekeeping. This episode was the first we recorded with a new piece of software called Riverside, a piece of software dedicated to recording podcasts, interviews and such. It’ll probably sound a little different, and hopefully better (despite some early teething issues with it because this is our first time with us all using it), because it records directly from each of our machines, rather than from just mine. Please let us know what you think, because from MY end? I like it a LOT — the hand raise feature ALONE might be worth the price of admission — and am going to invest in using it for this and Retro Dogfight going forward.

Now, as for the show itself? This week, Spaz, Julie, Thorston, Jacob, and I talk about games that are sandboxey versus games that are more campaigney and linear. It’s a nuanced discussion in which we have to lay the groundwork for several times, but we end up having a very fun discussion, one which we hope you’ll enjoy!

In a couple of weeks, on April 22nd, 2026, we’ll talk about resurrected MMOs! As always, if you have any questions or comments, please drop them in the comments below, email us at hail@spacegamejunkie.com or hit us up on the forums. Thanks you for listening, and we hope you enjoy the show!
