Hiatus Announcement

I Really Need This…

Hey friends, I’m writing this post with a somber heart, but a logical head. I am taking a break from making content for Space Game Junkie. This includes the podcast and any PC game-related streams. There are a few reasons for this:

  1. I’m burnt out. I’ve been avoiding this for a while, but in my heart and head I know it’s true. I’ve been doing this for fifteen years, and while I love what we’ve built and am proud of the content we’ve created, my heart just isn’t in it right now, and I know if I push myself past the point of burnout, it won’t be any fun for any of us.
  2. My gaming has changed significantly. In the past six months, possibly due to Prozac or therapy or both, my gaming habits and desires have changed significantly. Whereas before this change, I was 98% a PC gamer, now I’m pretty much a 100% GBA/DS/3DS gamer. There are a multitude of reasons why I’ve switched to 3DS gaming, and I’ve touched upon them here, if you’d like to know more.
  3. Right now, I want to put my creative energies elsewhere. Retro Dogfight is sadly on hiatus due to other issues, but I also want to focus on The Joyful Nerd and 3DSCast too. I’ll still be streaming to SGJ, but it’ll be GBA, DS and 3DS games as I concurrently stream to the 3DSCast YouTube channel. I’ll also keep doing my regular updates and The Joyful Nerd, and hopefully more there as well.

Nothing is getting shut down or anything. The site will always be here, and our lovely Discord will be hopefully as active as ever.

So, this isn’t in any way a goodbye, but more of a “see you later.” Twenty years ago I took a long break from gaming, and it did me a world of good in the end once I returned. I can’t say how long this break will take, but that’s all it is, a break.

I love, cherish and value you all, and again I thank you for being a part of this wonderful experience that has been Space Game Junkie. Again, this is not a goodbye, just a break. I thank you all for your support and patience, and can’t wait to see you wherever I see you. Take care everyone, of yourselves and each other.
