Let’s Play Ascendancy – Entry 1 – I Play, I Lose, I Play Again!

So…That Happened…

Welcome to this week’s game my friends, 1995’s wonderful 4X, Ascendancy, from the folks at the Logic Factory. Ascendancy is a classic in the genre for its efficient and streamlined gameplay, truly alien races (over twenty of them) and fairly unique interface. I have a very soft spot in my heart for this game, as it’s likely the first space 4X I ever played. In this entry, I lost my first round due to running out of population to build stuff, a mistake I didn’t make after restarting. Getting back to this game is like visiting an old friend you haven’t seen in years. It’s a quirky game, but I love it.

Also, since I had to turn the music off to avoid copyright issues, here’s the soundtrack for y’all to enjoy, separately, of course:
