Birth of the Federation – A Proud People – Let’s Play Entry 1

Fight Fight Fight!

Welcome to Star Trek: The Next Generation: Birth of the Federation (that’s a lot of colons!), my friends! This is a late 90s 4X game from the folks at Microprose using the Star Trek: Next Generation license. I didn’t play it at the time because the reviews were middling at best, and the use of solely Next Gen era stuff seemed really weird to me. Well, now that I’ve begun playing it, it STILL feels weird to me. I get the licensing issues between the various eras, I GUESS, but it’s still a very odd design choice. For this series, I’ve decided to do things a little different and try to play the Cardassians, a proud race who have two of the best characters in all of Star Trek, Elim Garak and Gul Dukat. In this first entry, I meet a bunch of minor races, as well as the Ferengi and Federation empires, so things should hopefully begin to get interesting soon. Hopefully.
