Starsector Preview – A Real Good Tactical Time

FREAKIN' LASERS!
FREAKIN’ LASERS!

In this video, I sit down with the latest early access version of Starsector, a real-time tactical mission-based and open-campaign space combat game that has fleet management, a living world, and much more. It’s also damned unforgiving at times, in a good way! ;) This video deals with some tutorial and tactical stuff, and some campaign stuff as well. While development is slow, I have to say this game is coming along nicely, as it feels stable and fun and there seems to be plenty to do.

  1. Personally, I like cozying up to all the factions except one, then just bully the last relentlessly.

The Diktat keep having famines, so the Luddic Church keeps sending huge trade fleets filled with food. Since it is not their sector, they don’t have a large protective presence. When they are about to relieve the famine, I ambush them one second away from the planet.

I don’t have enough storage, so I take a HUGE logistic penalty, but only for that second. The food is worth x10 what it normally is, so now I can afford a new cruiser, weapons to go on it, and crew to man it.

      1. Sorry, I guess what I was getting to was that I agree the game is looking good.

If there could be Mount and Blade in space, this game is shaping up in that direction.

        1. Hah, no worries man, I was just trying to be funny, and it was a stealth Hot Fuzz reference…

  2. Starsector is still delivers my space fix these days. I’ve loved it especially since the economic update, everything just feels so much more meaningful.

One of the best things is engaging an enemy fleet offloading at a planet and seeing it hang in the sky behind the battle. It feels very good.

    1. Welcome to the comments PsychoSociety, and yeah, it’s coming along REALLY nicely, to be sure. :)
