Hailing Frequencies Open – 3/31/17 – Sliding Into the Weekend

Love the Sliders.

OMG it’s finally Friday y’all! Yay! Happy freaking Friday! Yay again! To end out the week, the last Battle for Orion 2 video shows off the game’s battle generator, which is a great way to get into a match if you don’t feel like making your own map. Overall, I was surprised by Battle for Orion 2. Besides some little UI niggles, it’s a really fun and challenging game that repeatedly kicked my ass, and I have to respect it for that.

As stated yesterday, After the Empire hit Steam today, and in preparation I’ve been reading the game’s manual. This one looks like it’s gonna be a doozy, but I loved The Viceroy, so if this is even in a similar vein, I’ll totally grok it. After reading the manual, I definitely need to spend time with the tutorials as well. REALLY looking forward to it.

Last night’s PULSAR: Lost Colony stream was a hoot. We actually had a Scottish engineer y’all, and that just lent legitimacy to the whole endeavour. ;) Seriously it was a lot of fun, with tons of innuendo being thrown around. Looking forward to playing again, lemme tell ya.

After that, I was able to install and load up the copy of 2009’s Wolfenstein I just received. I kept hearing about how good this shooter is, and I just love Raven, so I figured I had to give it a try, and eventually found an affordable copy. One level in and so far this game is lovingly batshit, with a fun mix of great gunplay and wackadoo paranormal nonsense. I might have to get the two newer Wolfenstein games in the upcoming Steam Spring Sale, along with DOOM if it gets cheap enough. I’m really on a single-player shooter kick of late. Thanks Titanfall 2! ;)

Speaking of which, Titanfall 2 is having a free weekend where you can play multiplayer and give one of the really, really fun single player missions a try. I TOTALLY suggest y’all try it out because there’s really nothing like it. The nice thing about the single player mission is that it’s fairly self contained (i.e. not very spoilery) and serves as a great showcase for both pilot and titan-based combat.

Besides playing Titanfall 2 this weekend, when I have time, I also hope to jump into Guns of Icarus Alliance with some of our community members. Initial reports indicate that it’s pretty damned great, and I know I’m excited to try some co-op aerial steamship combat and conquest! I also plan some Crew and, actually, if it does come out today, I TOTALLY have to get and dive into Rogue Islands. It looks like the Cubeworld we never actually got. :/

In newsy news, let’s start with updates! Lightspeed Frontier got a HUGE update today that adds and changes a LOT to the game. I can’t wait to revisit it, especially with its revised building scheme. Stellar Monarch added suns and moons, which apparently can actually affect gameplay! Finally Dominus Galaxia had a massive update, which shows a lot of work is on going for this MOO1 clone.

In more traditional news, you can now pre-order Stellaris: Utopia from Paradox’s store, which isn’t far away from release. Next, according to this tweet, Elite: Dangerous: Horizons: Commanders will come out on April 16th, which adds multi-crew, faces and a bunch more. Is that gonna get me to actually play it? Maybe? I’m super burned out on it right now. Epic Space Online is now publishing monthly reports, and their latest one covers…February? Finally, in Jumpgate news (yay Jumpgate!), APPARENTLY sentient Conflux are now able to cut off entire sectors of space via corrupting jumpgates along trade routes. This will require active pilots to deal with this threat, which is a great excuse for us to get in the game, so I’m definitely gonna try to soon! Actually FINALLY finally, alliances are coming to Avorion! Neat!

Oh, and finally, sorry for the podcast being a bit late y’all, gonna try to get it up today. Week’s just been really getting away from me. While I try to get it up on Thursdays, I’m not always able to, but it’ll go up soon.

That’s it for today y’all! Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend!

  1. Hey, I’m the developer of Battle for Orion 2. Thanks for reviewing the game this week! I’m glad you liked it despite the difficulty. I’ve made a few changes based on comments you made in your videos to tone down the difficulty in the early missions.

For anyone interested in getting the game, you can get it on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/564470/
I also put a demo version on Kongregate here: https://www.kongregate.com/games/InfLoopGames/battle-for-orion-2

Chime In!
