Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom Debuts on GOG!!!

OMGOMGOMG! Finally, the best game in the series, in my humble opinion — especially since it has the best fighter — is now on GOG. You can now get the amazing space sim/sci-fi movie, Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom, on GOG for $5.99. If you’ve not played this amazing game, you owe it to yourself to do so, but make sure you play 1, 2 and 3 first. ;)

Why is this game so awesome? Let me give you a brief rundown…

First, while this wasn’t the first Wing Commander game to use full-motion video, it certainly was the best. Using real sets instead of the blue screens found in the third installment, for example, and sporting what I think is a much more solid script, Wing Commander IV had an epicness to its story that few space sims before or since can match. The combat, while still being typically Wing Commander-esque, was as tense and exciting as ever.

The biggest reason, I think, to get the game — besides the Dragon, of course — is to see what I think is the pinnacle of the series unfold in front of you. Boasting what I think is the best combination of story and acting in the series, along with giving the player several choices of dialogue trees, wingman choices and so on, I think allows the player to feel like more a part of the story than ever before. I love all five Wing Commander games, but this is the one where the series shined the brightest, I think.

So if you have annnnnnny interest at all in space combat, get this game (or the whole series up to this point on GOG and play them in order). Thanks for reading, and enjoy!
