Skyjacker Kickstarter Begun – LOTR+GTA+NFS in Space?

More Pew-Pewness On The Way?

So apparently there’s this game called Skyjacker that’s been in development for a little while — sadly I’d never heard of it until today — and they just launched a Kickstarter campaign. Based on their Kickstarter page…

SKYJACKER is:

  • LOTR by its gaming atmosphere of space saga
  • GTA by its criminal background and freedom of choice inside the game
  • NFS by its energy and gameplay dynamics, and ability to customize the vehicle

And all of them together, transferred to space.

Interesting way to describe a space game. This all apparently means its huge and epic, has a lot of player choice, and fast-paced gameplay. Based on the videos on their homepage — one of which I’ll put after the cut — the combat does look pretty fun, so check it out! :) Enjoy!

  1. So basically it’s an Elite clone? I just need to be able to mine and smuggle, than I’m set.

      1. It’s more of an X-Wing/Tie Fighter game, where each mission places assets and then lets everyone do their thing. Scavenging/harvesting/resource management isn’t in the scope of this project, apart from buying stuff on the market with successful mission rewards.

You can certainly blow the crap out of asteroids with your weapons though. (In fact you can nudge an asteroid into a group of ships – the expanding asteroid bits acts pretty much like a frag grenade in close quarters.) And there are miners and smugglers in the game, along with merchants, settlers, and bounty hunters. So it’s a living universe. Just one in which the protagonist is too proud to collect scraps, and too much of a jerk to earn an honest wage.

    1. Meh, it’s one of them there eastern European games, so I’ve grown to expect wonky voice work. ;)

      1. Pretty much! The voices you’re hearing are the programmers themselves, and they’re placeholders – the “demo” really is an alpha build, an internal testbed they’ve been using. So they stuck their own voices in there to test comms as well as make sure it “feels right” with all intention of getting professional voice work done further down the development roadmap.

Personally I like their voices. The setting is you’re the lone human in a galaxy of conflicting alien races. Well – they sound alien, like someone who’s parroting english. Because, uhh… yeah. }:D

        1. Hi Vaev, and welcome to the blog! And please don’t think I was complaining about the voice work, I wasn’t. :)
