Site-Stuff: Makin’ Some Changes

Still fixing stuff!
Please pardon our dust!

Hey y’all, just FYI, I’m making some tweaks to try and make the site faster, so there might be some changes here and there. No need to worry, I’m just working hard to make this site offers as great a user experience as possible. :) Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions if y’all have ’em, and thanks for visiting!

Edit: So I’ve tried several caching plugins so far, and they’ve either broke the gallery images, the comments, or the CSS of every theme I have. UGH. I want the site to be faster, but I’m not sacrificing usability to do it. Gonna keep trying other thingies. Thanks for your patience folks. :)

There’s been some progress though. My Google Page Speed score went from 76/100 to 85/100, and my speed test score on WebPageTest went from a 67/100 to a 77/100 since I began this whole thingamabob. Wheeee! :) According to WBT, the initial load time has gone from around 11.5 seconds to 6.5 seconds, so I’m calling that positive movement. :)

  1. Thanks for working to improve your site’s performance, Brian! I’ve noticed at least a little bit of improvement there. I do think the new theme/layout is a big improvement. The site looks cleaner and more organized and the Featured Posts banner is much less intrusive. Best of luck as you continue to tweak things.

    1. Yeah, I’m not 100% a fan of this theme, honestly, but it’s cleaner from a code perspective which helps a lot. It’ll likely be a while before I find a theme that’s speedy and really clicks with me, and likely it’ll be a premium one, but as this site will hopefully be constantly evolving, so will the look and feel of it. :) Thanks! :)

    1. Thanks man, really trying. Like I said, not 100% on the theme, but it’ll do for now until I find one that clicks. Likely a premium one this time. Sigh.

Chime In!
