Helllllooooo my friends, and happy Thursday! I hope y’all are having great week so far! Mine’s been okay, not enough sleeping and certainly not enough gaming, but whuddyagonnado, right? ;) You’re not here to read my babblings though (or ARE you?), you’re here for NEWS, so let’s do this thing!
Paragon – Finally, I brought this up yesterday because I was under the mistaken impression it’s a new game. It isn’t, it appears to be a modification based on the Pioneer open source engine. However, the Paragon site doesn’t mention Pioneer at ALL, which honestly bugs me a lot, especially since they’re on Greenlight asking to be sold on the biggest digital distribution platform around. I therefore wanted to apologize for giving the impression this was a new game and just be transparent about the whole thing.
But wait, there’s more. We have some deals today too! First off, there’s a new digital distribution platform called ShinyLoot and they have deals on some space games such as:
I already got that Honor in Vengeance II game, because $0.90 is amazingly cheap, but still, stuff is hard to find over there, so be warned. The other deal is the Humble Weekly Sale which includes AI War and all five expansions along with basically every other Arcen game for about $6 as I write this, an amazing deal if you miss out on the last one.
Finally, in kinda-related news, some intrepid fans made a full-scale model of U.S.S. Voyager from the show of the same name. Heck, I might even load up Minecraft my own self to check it out.
Holy crap, newsiness! It’s been a while since I posted some of this stuff, but DAAAAAYUM has life been crazy. Work has been INSANE, home life has been busy and I had a weird slightly-depressive funk I had to work my way through (nothing bad, just turning 40 stuff mostly), but things are balancing out again, which means it’s time for NEWS, and hooooooly crap is there a ton (over 180 items). Several weeks worth of stuff from all over the map (so much so that this post will likely be written over a mult-day period). This post will be so damned big I’ll have to put it behind a cut just to help make the front page look sane, so here goes… Continue reading →
Hey guys! I’m still chipping away at that massive news post I keep promising with now about three weeks of news (around 150 items currently) backlogged, but some sales hit today that I wanted to make y’all aware of. First, Amazon is having a massive Last Summer Deals sale which includes some spacey goodness such as:
If someone was to ask me what the best deals here were, I’d say X3: Gold in the Amazon sale (since it also includes Alnion Prelude, which is pretty decent) and Ring Runner. On Steam, though there’s not much of a game there yet, Kinetic Void has a ton of potential, so it’s a small price to pay for what hopefully will be a great game. Enjoy!
Edit: This just dropped as I wrote this post, but there’s a massive Paradox Humble Weekly Bundle that, white at its base doesn’t include any space games, if you pay $125 you get nearly fifty Paradox games which includes Sword of the Stars II. I’ll likely get the smaller bundle just for the soundtracks alone my own self, but wow, overall that’s a damned fine deal.
I’m gonna be honest right up front here: I’ve not clicked with an X game since X-Tension many years ago. While I’ve tried every iteration, the further series has progressed, the more it’s felt like a business simulation in which your office just happens to be a spaceship. I’m totally fine with trading in space sims, but I’m here to fly, haul and fight, not manage a business. That sounds a lot like WORK. So it was with some trepidation that I approached X3: Albion Prelude because I knew I had something of a bias against the series. I figure one of the beauties of this blog will be to help me possibly overcome such biases by looking at games more critically that I might have if I were just playing certain games for my own amusement. With that said, I tried to approach this game with as little amount of trepidation and bias as possible. Read on to find out if I was successful in overcoming these biases and actually find some fun underneath all the numbers.
Hellllllloooo my friends, and happy Friday! The weekend is FINALLY upon us! YES! Sorry about the lack of news for the past couple of days, there was some other stuff I needed to get done first before this, so I hope y’all don’t mind. :) Even though my time has been consumed with Distant Worlds: Shadows, I’ve still managed to fit in some X3: Albion Prelude, so I’ll have something on that early next week. I also hope to tackle some more TIE Fighter this weekend as well. But enough about me, there’s a LOT of newsiness to talk about!!!
Distant Worlds: Shadows – Speaking of which, that crazy cat Das24680 has threenewvideos of him playing the game. THREE. I wish I had his dedication/energy. YouTube user quill18 also has a Let’s Try video of him playing the game. These’ll all be embedded below too.
Gimbal – There’s a new expansion for the game that adds new game modes, new parts, new maps and more. Looks like now’d be a good time to try it, huh? ;) I got a copy last year and it sadly fell through the cracks during my nutty Summer. I should rectify that problem…
Star Sonata 2 – There’s also a new expansion pack coming for this game next month called “Subspace Assault” that which adds restructured content and other stuff.
Haaaaaaaaaaayyyy y’all! Happy Tuesday! I hope y’all are having a lovely day! I’m having a great staycation so far my own self! Now, a couple of things before I jump into the news. First, to try and get as much done as possible this week, my plan is to play as many games as I can fit in, take notes, capture screenshots, that sort of thing, then write about ‘em as I have time. Therefore, this week might not be stuffed with content, but there will be a steady stream of content coming out over the next days and weeks as a result, FYI.
Secondly, reader Jake wrote in to request I try a new news format to make it easier to read. Basically start with the game’s name itself after the bullet in bold, followed by the news, so I’m gonna try that now. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. :) Thanks folks!
Sword of the Stars II – There’s a new update that offers several critical fixes and changes.
Excalibur Mod – There’s a new video entitled “Launching the Enterprise” which is awesome, and will be embedded after the cut.
Finally, in spacey game deals, spacey groundy game Salvation Prophecy is on sale at GamersGate for $10, and Paradox has launched their own web store and are celebrating by having a 55% off sale, meaning you can get Sword of the Stars II for $9.
That’s it for today! Have an awesome day y’all, and thanks as always for visiting!
I Will Throw This Brick of News Through All of Your Windows! ;)
Hey y’all, happy Wednesday, and welcome back from Christmas break (if you had one, that is)! How was everyone’s holiday, and what did y’all get? ;) Mine was awesome, and I hope yours was too! Now with that said, let’s see what’s happened over the break…
Hey y’all, happy Friday! SO, SO sorry about the lack of news for the last couple of days, lots of busy work stuff that had to be finished and I just had neither the time or the energy. Things have slowed a bit now, so now I can get caught up, so let’s dive in, shall we?
The BIG BIG news is that Drox Operative has been fully released! YAY! If you have a beta version of the game, you can download a patch to bring it up to 1.000. I’ve spoken about the game at length, if you’re curious to read my thoughts, so if you’ve been waiting for the final version before diving in, now’s the time to try it. Don’t forget there’s a demo too that let’s you get up to level six.
Next up, Miner Wars 2081 was finally released, and you can get it on Steam and GamersGate, as well as view a launch trailer (also embedded after the cut). This is the mostly single-player version of the game, the MMO will be along later, FYI.
There’s a buncha Endless Space news! First, their second free content update was released, called “Echoes of the Endless”. This adds exploration awards, random events, new heroes and tons more. To help celebrate, Steam is having both a free weekend to play the game and is selling it for 50% off as well. Gamasutra has an article looking at the background of Amplutude Studio, and finally, 4xgamer has a nonsensical review of the latest release, which is pretty funny. ;)
Now, onto the deals. As its Thanksgiving week here in the U.S., the deals are gonna come hot and heavy, especially from Steam, who will have so many I’ll likely not be able to share ‘em all (I suggest the amazing DDDeals and Cheap Ass Gamer to help keep up). GamersGate, however, has hit the ground running with their Thanksgiving sale, and it includes the following spacey goodness.
Thanks to Daniele over on Facebook for pointing this out. Apparently Steam’s Midweek Madness is to sell the entire X Superbox for 50% off, or $20. You also can get the games individually for half off as well. This amounts to:
Not a bad deal, if you ask me. While I’ve never been a huge fan of the X series my own self — I’ve usually found them rather dry, honestly — I know a lot of folks who love these games, so they’re at least worth checking out if you’re looking for detailed space economics wrapped in a space sim. :) Enjoy!
