Spacey Gamey News and Deals 9/5/13: The It’s-Not-Friday-Yet? Edition

Newsey Goodness…

Helllllooooo my friends, and happy Thursday! I hope y’all are having great week so far! Mine’s been okay, not enough sleeping and certainly not enough gaming, but whuddyagonnado, right? ;) You’re not here to read my babblings though (or ARE you?), you’re here for NEWS, so let’s do this thing!

  • Star Citizen – The Mittani has posted their own hangar walkthrough showing off eight ships (well, four ships with several variants) and the official site has an edited version of the hangar launch video which was edited by a fan. Both vids will be below the cut.
  • EVE Online – The official site has word that the Second Decade Collector’s Edition will ship on October 24th. This massive package (hurr hurr) inclides a 190-page hardcover book, a Rifter-shaped USB hub, a soundtrack CD and several in-game items. Dayum.
  • Star Conflict – A new update has been released that improves ship slot systems, among other things.
  • X3 Series – Via the Egosoft Facebook account, they’ve announced that X3: Terran Conflict and X3: Albion Prelude are in beta for Mac through Steam.
  • Wing Commander – The CIC are reporting that an intrepid fan has gotten the original game to work on a Raspberry Pi, which is pretty damned cool.
  • Star Trek Online – There’s a new dev blog looking further at dilithium mines, a new special project in the game, apparently.
  • Drox Operative – A new 1.022 beta patch adds a ton of new fixes and reminds me I owe the expansion a preview, so stay tuned for that.
  • Ring Runner – Over on Facebook, there’s a new logo for the game’s upcoming MOBA-like mode.
  • Yargis: The Beginning – Found this game over on Steam Greenlight, and it looks pretty nifty. They also have an IndieGoGo campaign going on.
  • Paragon – Finally, I brought this up yesterday because I was under the mistaken impression it’s a new game. It isn’t, it appears to be a modification based on the Pioneer open source engine. However, the Paragon site doesn’t mention Pioneer at ALL, which honestly bugs me a lot, especially since they’re on Greenlight asking to be sold on the biggest digital distribution platform around. I therefore wanted to apologize for giving the impression this was a new game and just be transparent about the whole thing.

But wait, there’s more. We have some deals today too! First off, there’s a new digital distribution platform called ShinyLoot and they have deals on some space games such as:

I already got that Honor in Vengeance II game, because $0.90 is amazingly cheap, but still, stuff is hard to find over there, so be warned. The other deal is the Humble Weekly Sale which includes AI War and all five expansions along with basically every other Arcen game for about $6 as I write this, an amazing deal if you miss out on the last one.

Finally, in kinda-related news, some intrepid fans made a full-scale model of U.S.S. Voyager from the show of the same name. Heck, I might even load up Minecraft my own self to check it out.

That’s it for today folks. Have a great one!

Spacey Gamey News and Deals 8/10/13-9/3/13: A News Post So Big I Hope It Doesn’t Break the Site…

Help Me Puppy! I'm Burred in News!

Help Me Puppy! I’m Burred in News!

Holy crap, newsiness! It’s been a while since I posted some of this stuff, but DAAAAAYUM has life been crazy. Work has been INSANE, home life has been busy and I had a weird slightly-depressive funk I had to work my way through (nothing bad, just turning 40 stuff mostly), but things are balancing out again, which means it’s time for NEWS, and hooooooly crap is there a ton (over 180 items). Several weeks worth of stuff from all over the map (so much so that this post will likely be written over a mult-day period). This post will be so damned big I’ll have to put it behind a cut just to help make the front page look sane, so here goes…

Spacey Game Sales Underway!

Tons of Space Games on Sale!

Save Your Moneys!

Hey guys! I’m still chipping away at that massive news post I keep promising with now about three weeks of news (around 150 items currently) backlogged, but some sales hit today that I wanted to make y’all aware of. First, Amazon is having a massive Last Summer Deals sale which includes some spacey goodness such as:

Steam is also having an unexpected sale, this time to celebrate one year of Steam Greenlight. Spacey game deals include:

If someone was to ask me what the best deals here were, I’d say X3: Gold in the Amazon sale (since it also includes Alnion Prelude, which is pretty decent) and Ring Runner. On Steam, though there’s not much of a game there yet, Kinetic Void has a ton of potential, so it’s a small price to pay for what hopefully will be a great game. Enjoy!

Edit: This just dropped as I wrote this post, but there’s a massive Paradox Humble Weekly Bundle that, white at its base doesn’t include any space games, if you pay $125 you get nearly fifty Paradox games which includes Sword of the Stars II. I’ll likely get the smaller bundle just for the soundtracks alone my own self, but wow, overall that’s a damned fine deal.

X3: Albion Prelude – Fun Times, But Not Without Work

This Is How It Begins...And How It Ends...

This Is How It Begins…And How It Ends…

I’m gonna be honest right up front here: I’ve not clicked with an X game since X-Tension many years ago. While I’ve tried every iteration, the further series has progressed, the more it’s felt like a business simulation in which your office just happens to be a spaceship. I’m totally fine with trading in space sims, but I’m here to fly, haul and fight, not manage a business. That sounds a lot like WORK. So it was with some trepidation that I approached X3: Albion Prelude because I knew I had something of a bias against the series. I figure one of the beauties of this blog will be to help me possibly overcome such biases by looking at games more critically that I might have if I were just playing certain games for my own amusement. With that said, I tried to approach this game with as little amount of trepidation and bias as possible. Read on to find out if I was successful in overcoming these biases and actually find some fun underneath all the numbers.

Spacey News and Deals 5/15-17/13: The Bring On the Weekend Edition

Drowning in News

SO MANY NEWSIDEALSNESS!

Hellllllloooo my friends, and happy Friday! The weekend is FINALLY upon us! YES! Sorry about the lack of news for the past couple of days, there was some other stuff I needed to get done first before this, so I hope y’all don’t mind. :) Even though my time has been consumed with Distant Worlds: Shadows, I’ve still managed to fit in some X3: Albion Prelude, so I’ll have something on that early next week. I also hope to tackle some more TIE Fighter this weekend as well. But enough about me, there’s a LOT of newsiness to talk about!!!

Now we have deals!!! First, I suppose to celebrate the release of its major 3.0 patch as noted above, some of the X games are on sale at a few places, such as:

Next in deals, Amazon is having a HUGE Digital Games Mayhem sale, yet it only includes a few space games (of which are of questionable quality, but I mention ‘em regardless), such as:

Finally in deals, we have some randoms, such as Dawnstar (which I still need to play) for $5.00 on Green Man Gaming and Unstoppable Gorg for…whatever you want on IndieGameStand.

Finally in related stuff, the folks at the amazing Three Moves Ahead podcast had a great podcast on 4X games.

That’s it!! WHEW! Have a great weekend everyone.

Spacey Gamey News and Deals 1/23/13: A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That…

Folded Newspapers

Piling it On…

Haaaaaaaaaaayyyy y’all! Happy Tuesday! I hope y’all are having a lovely day! I’m having a great staycation so far my own self! Now, a couple of things before I jump into the news. First, to try and get as much done as possible this week, my plan is to play as many games as I can fit in, take notes, capture screenshots, that sort of thing, then write about ‘em as I have time. Therefore, this week might not be stuffed with content, but there will be a steady stream of content coming out over the next days and weeks as a result, FYI.

Secondly, reader Jake wrote in to request I try a new news format to make it easier to read. Basically start with the game’s name itself after the bullet in bold, followed by the news, so I’m gonna try that now. Please let me know what you think in the comments below. :) Thanks folks!

Finally, in spacey game deals, spacey groundy game Salvation Prophecy is on sale at GamersGate for $10, and Paradox has launched their own web store and are celebrating by having a 55% off sale, meaning you can get Sword of the Stars II for $9.

That’s it for today! Have an awesome day y’all, and thanks as always for visiting!

Spacey Gamey Post-Christmas 2012 News and Deals

News Brick

I Will Throw This Brick of News Through All of Your Windows! ;)

Hey y’all, happy Wednesday, and welcome back from Christmas break (if you had one, that is)! How was everyone’s holiday, and what did y’all get? ;) Mine was awesome, and I hope yours was too! Now with that said, let’s see what’s happened over the break…

In non-spacey game news, the folks behind AI War, Arcen Games, have released the beta for their 2.0 version of A Valley Without Wind. All existing owners of AVWW get 2.0 for free, and you can get ‘em both right now on Steam for just $5.99, which is an amazing deal. I put a decent amount of time into AVWW and found it a ton of fun, so I can’t wait for the sequel.

Finally, in deals, Get Games is having their Cheap as Chips sale and you can get Star Wolves, Star Wolves 2 and Star Wolves 3: Civil War for $2.70 each, the chepest I’ve ever seen ‘em, and totally worth it. :)

That’s it for today folks! I hope y’all have a lovely day, and I thank you for visiting and reading, as always! :)

Space Game News and Deals – 11/28-30/12

Newsy News

End Your Week with Some Newsiness!

Hey y’all, happy Friday! SO, SO sorry about the lack of news for the last couple of days, lots of busy work stuff that had to be finished and I just had neither the time or the energy. Things have slowed a bit now, so now I can get caught up, so let’s dive in, shall we?

Now, in deals, there’s a bunch to discuss.

  • There’s a new bundle at Bundle Stars which includes Star Wolves 2. Currently the price is $6.88 for all of the games.
  • If you’d like Star Wolves 3: Civil War, the new Indie Gala bundle lets you get it and other games if you pay currently more than $3.94.
  • You can pre-order Iron Sky Invasion for 60% off at Green Man Gaming, bringing the price to $15.99.
  • Finally, you can get the amazing Hardwar on sale this weekend at DotEmu for $2.40.

These are some fantastic deals, all told (well, I dunno about Iron Sky yet, but the rest are really awesome).

That’s it folks! I hope y’all had a lovely week, and may you have a fantastic weekend ahead!

Spacey Game News and Deals – 11/19/12

Folded Newspapers

Bringing You All the News That’s Fit to Print!

Hello there y’all, and happy Monday! What a day it’s been already, thanks to the Star Citizen news, but besides that, other stuff happened over the weekend as well, so let’s get it out of the way! :)

Now, onto the deals. As its Thanksgiving week here in the U.S., the deals are gonna come hot and heavy, especially from Steam, who will have so many I’ll likely not be able to share ‘em all (I suggest the amazing DDDeals and Cheap Ass Gamer to help keep up). GamersGate, however, has hit the ground running with their Thanksgiving sale, and it includes the following spacey goodness.

Aaaand I need a nap now. ;) Have a great day y’all!

X Games 50% Off on Steam

X Superbox

Take This Box of Super for 50% Off!

Thanks to Daniele over on Facebook for pointing this out. Apparently Steam’s Midweek Madness is to sell the entire X Superbox for 50% off, or $20. You also can get the games individually for half off as well. This amounts to:

Not a bad deal, if you ask me. While I’ve never been a huge fan of the X series my own self — I’ve usually found them rather dry, honestly — I know a lot of folks who love these games, so they’re at least worth checking out if you’re looking for detailed space economics wrapped in a space sim. :) Enjoy!
